A Movie Under The Stars

Last night I crossed off one of our summer bucket list items, outdoor Movie night.

Our Community hosts free outdoor movies at various locations around town.  Local businesses sponsor these movie nights.  Last night it was hosted at Historical Hope Lodge.  A beautiful location for sure!  We waited for dark to get the movie going and it was really cool with the Mansion sitting in the background.  Popcorn and movie…how can you go wrong.

Dark came quickly now that we are racing toward Autumn.  And the 100+ folks who gathered on the lawn applauded the start and finish of our movie.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is/was a classic.  All though Amy Farrah Fowler messed with our minds stating that regardless of what Indiana Jones did the end would have been the same and he didn’t even need to be there I still loved this picture!  Getting to watch it with my love made it even more fun!

Six Degress of Dr. Sheldon Cooper

I’ve loved The Big Bang Theory since I saw the first episode.  It was just one of those shows I could relate too.  I’ve found I’m a lot like all four of the boys on the show (minus their intelligence).

I associate many things with many other things (Totally stole that from Katherine Hepburn via Desk Set).  I used to say everything I ever learned I learned from a movie.  I now realize that is not so but for a long time it felt like it was true.  This is one of those times.

Big Bang has made me try things I wouldn’t have tried before like hot dogs and spaghetti and light sabers.  It made me want to learn more about Physics which I found very interesting.  Sometimes it influences me to read certain books.  One I read was Flatland by Edwin Abbott.  The second book Bean found in a thrift store.  She immediately showed it too me and then went…”It’s not the finger…it’s the M-O-V-I-N-G Finger”…I laughed.  The was a line from Big Bang.  The book she found is Agatha Christie’s “The Moving Finger” and I can’t wait to read it.

I’ve always enjoyed finding books from other books as well.  Right now I’m reading “Miss Lonely Hearts & The Day of the Locust” by Nathaniel West because I came across it from Lillian Hellman’s “An Unfinished Woman”.  Sometimes life, books, TV and movies are weird like that, lol.

The Theremin’s Making A Comeback

The Theremin’s making a comeback and it only took 50 years.  Bean and I have some odd conversation…like this one.

Me (singing):  Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen…nobody knows my…(not singing)…Oh this would be so much better if I had that Star Trek instrument that Sheldon has.
Bean:  What’s that called again?
Me:  It’s a Xenophon or a xylophone or something like that…what’s it called again.
Bean:  When we don’t know something we look it up. (click, click, click of the keys).
Me:  Oh you are looking it up?
Bean:  Yes see me on the computer…you always do that.
Me:  I do.
Bean:  What did you think it was called.
Me:  I don’t know. Xena-warrior-princess-phone
Bean:  It’s a Theremin.
Me:  Oh yeah…that’s it…a Theremin.
Bean:  I know, I just said that.
Me:  They are cool.

Sometimes I just don’t make any sense at all but I think she still loves me anyway 🙂

Later Bean and I discussed maybe getting a theremin.

I looked it up and then I saw you can get a How To Play The Theremin DVD for only 24.95.  Then  I really thought about it and I thought I would easily tired of it.  So I decided to play with my batman stuff instead.

Television…what’s that?

Recently I’ve kind of given up the telly and you know what…I don’t really miss it.  I still watch some TV with my lovely wife but for the most part it’s off at our house.  I will be faithful to my handful of shows and I’m kind of interested in checking out 2 Broke Girls this fall but beyond that show I’m not interested in picking up other shows.

I still watch NCIS (LOVE YOU ABBY), The Big Bang Theory (NERDS RULE!), Pawn Stars/Storage Wars/Parking Wars/Ghost Hunters, DWTS, Chopped and House Hunters.  But of all of these shows I would only go out of my way not to miss NCIS and Big Bang. I think I lost my gusto for TV after they canceled my soaps.

Truthfully…now I’d rather read.

…and then I was all…THANK YOU LEONARD

I’m not a person who handles change very well.  Sometimes my brain goes into overload and I will just talk to myself like a schizophrenic wandering the vast city.  It makes me seem crazier than I really am.  One of those changes was when the Sci-Fi Channel changed its logo to SyFy.  Why?  Is Syfy really that cool?  I began pronouncing it Sifee because that’s how it’s spelled.  How they get the pronunciation of SCI-FI from SyFy I have no idea but I digress.
Fast forward to last Thursday (2/3/11) Episode of The Big Bang Theory.  Leonard Hofstadter posed the same question.  I turned to Bean and was all…SEE I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!  It was an enlightened moment for me because I was no longer alone in my SyFy confusion!
On the down side.  I’ve gone from talking to myself like a schizophrenic to being validated by an imaginary character.  That people…That’s PROGRESS!  Yeah Me!

My long-lost twin!

I Heart Your not-so-real-self Leonard Hofstadter!

Shopping At Shellmart

I’ve recently introduced Bean to “The Big Bang Theory“.  I say recently but really it was like 2 months ago but since I have no real concept of time that’s like yesterday.
She’s taken notice that apparently I resemble all four of the main characters.  When I drink I’m like Koothrappoli, I romance like Howard Wolowitz and sometimes Leonerd.  But it would appear I’m a lot like Sheldon.  Although, I do not have a fun catch word that acknowledges that I’ve made a funny like the word BAZINGA!  Seriously people what is funnier than Sheldon in the ball pit popping up yelling BAZINGA!  Yep…nothing is!

Like my Hero Sheldor I have many like qualities.  My favorite is I live in my own world that’s all up in my head.  Usually I’m oblivious to…well almost everything.  Although I’m a lot like Sheldon I haven’t created a Sims universe like Sheldonapolis or a Second Life character (although I want one because I’ve always wanted to fly).

I would really love it thought if I was as smart as those guys.  I’m not an astrophysicist but I have said at a Holiday Inn once.

Sheldor is AFK

My favorite part of the comparison of my life to there’s is…Bean is Penny 😉
