On A Hot Autumn Day

Today has been another hot day in the neighborhood.  It was colder in August than it is now.  I want it to be cold or cooler, not 85 degrees!

I haven’t been outside much in the last 5 days because of the heat and humidity.  Today I forced myself to go out to the farm for some Autumn cheer even if it was 85 degrees.

Things are starting to turn brownish.  Very Harvest looking which is wonderful!  The farm is preparing for the winter and sowing the crops.  I love having this place near me.  Suburbia isn’t the same as wide open farmland.  To have this to look at everyday is soul cleansing.  It gave me the boost I needed today.  Now Mother Nature is done with Hurricanes and Heatwaves we can get on with Autumn, thank you. 🙂

Thanksgiving…I’m Thankful for the Food

Thanksgiving 2016 came and went.  Good time had by many and the food was bountiful…and tasty!

The appetizers were off the hook this year.  Bean came up with some snazzy ideas and everyone like them.  Beautiful and Tasty!

There was something for everyone!

No holiday would be complete without a Stock’s cake!  Boom…that’s what Philly is all about at Thanksgiving!

We would be thankful for more but our sports teams suck, lol!

1776 Lives!!

Sunday saw bright sunny skies and a balmy 60 degrees.  It was the perfect kind of day to take in the yearly Revolutionary War Battle Re-Enactment.

What I love about the Re-Enactments is the fact they stay in character and live that way all weekend.  It so much fun to speak with General Washington as he surveys his troops.

It doesn’t hurt the mood when it’s autumn with the vibrant colors accenting the encampment.

They held weapon demonstrations before the skirmish.

It turns out Ben Franklin is quite the shooter.  The lady in non-period garb is the safety inspector.

In the center, guiding the American Militia is General George Washington.

The British won the skirmish but not the war and the Americans lived to re-enact another battle!

If you get a chance visit Hope Lodge.  It’s an historic treat!

The Road Most Traveled Is Also Beautiful!

Autumn seems to be zinging by and I had a fear I’d miss it.  Today I went out at lunchtime to catch some of the color.

So many colors.  It’s amazing to watch.  I could sit on the bench for hours!

The whole season races by and I’m always trying to catch a glimpse whenever I can.  It is hard to believe that this weekend is Halloween.

Time really needs to slow down.  In the mean time I’m going to keep enjoying the show nature has laid out for us!

In 1777 George Washington Slept Everywhere

On Sunday I went to Hope Lodge to see a Re-enactment of an Encampment of 1777.  It was amazing and informational.

They dressed, ate and even played games all in the spirit of the 18th Century.

I have to say that I love when people like these have such cool hobbies!!!  Thank you Cool Hobby people for giving me an eye into history and a great way to spend an Autumn day!

Memories of Milkweed Pods

I know it’s kind of weird but hear me out.

IMG_2441 (400x288)

When I was a child I loved milkweed pods in the fall.  So soft and filled with potential.

IMG_2448 (400x293)

We would run in the woods and pick the stem with the semi-opened pod and run with them spreading the weed’s seeds all over.

IMG_2447 (289x400)

We didn’t know they were weeds and a nuisance to lawn enthusiasts everywhere.  We just knew they were fun. The fluffs were wishes in the air. You could pick a fluff, make your wish and send it off into the universe with your silent hopes attached.

IMG_2450 (400x300)

Even today when I see them, like I did this weekend, I do not see anything but possibilities when I gazed at them.  After all, they are filled with thousands of wishes in each pod.  It’s moments like these that I’m glad I still have some of my childhood faith left.   I got to make my wish this weekend I hope everyone gets that chance this autumn.
