The FOSP – Benihanna Edition

So it’s not the typical French Onion Soup that I generally eat.  In fact, they just call it Onion Soup.

It was super tasty.  Very light for a first course offering.  It had a sort of umami quality to it.  I was completely taken by surprise the amount of flavor in this seemingly simple broth.

It had so much more going on in this bowl than one can see from this picture.

I liked it a lot!  It gets high praise from this French Onion Soup Fan 🙂

Puppies and Nature

So I was taking a walk in the Neighborhood and I came across this enormous mushroom.

I’ve not seen one this big in a long time.  I’m sure it was aided in growing so large by the very humid, rainy and hot environment of the last two weeks.  So of course I had to do this…

What can I say…I’m just and over-aged child.

The Words of Maya Angelou

Today we celebrate the Life of Maya Angelou and the Death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.   These two beautiful human beings left their words for which we can live and learn.

They are more poignant now under the wave of Nationalism taking hold of our Country.  The wave has spread great fear among many in our Country.   We will Rise!

Still I Rise by Dr. Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise

Dr. King…Your dream is still alive in many!

Oh Halloween…I Miss You Already

The First.  Everything is the First in our new home.  This time it was the first Halloween.

We didn’t get many Trick-or-Treaters but I managed to have a great time.

There he goes our first Trick-or-Treater.  He was a little guy dressed as Batman.  His Dad was enjoying the Trick-or-Treating too.   He was so cute!  Batman, by the way, is the best Halloween Costume ever!

It was pretty cold outside and the moon shone crisp in the evening sky.  In short, it was perfect!  Next on our Holiday Hit Parade is Thanksgiving.  This weekend I will switch out the decorations.  I can’t wait.  To have our own home is beyond thrilling for me.  I’m like a lucky Trick-or-Treater who just got the full size candy bar!

Life is good 🙂

2017 Summer Vacation – The People of the Beach

Vacations are a time for people to relax.  A time to share each others lives and sometimes it’s a time to just be still.  Here are some of those moments.

I give you The People of the Crest Beach.

I can’t help it…I love it in Wildwood Crest.  I can’t wait until next year to see some of these same faces and maybe some new ones.

Until then…I will be dreaming of seeing this sign as I enter my Happy Place away from home.

I feel Wicked…

We went to see Wicked last night and it was phenomenal!!!

This is my third time seeing this wonderful Musical. Our seats were so close to the stage.  The best seat I’ve ever had for anything, lol!

I really have to thank my wife for having a Birthday and wanting tickets to see this show!  Thank you love!

A Little Christmas To Start The Season – Part 1 – Hope Lodge

This weekend definitely held the Christmas Theme for us.  On Saturday, we went to Hope Lodge to share in a little Christmas Cheer…Colonial Style.

The Volunteers who run this grand old mansion did an amazing job with decorating.  They covered all of the time periods that the house was in use.  From Colonial to Modern.

Miss Erin dress up in Colonial garb to keep the illusion going.

I love trains.  This everyone knows,  so to see a train going is aces for me.

They even displayed metal trains from approximately 1920’s-1930’s.  It was a wonderful Time.
