World Holocaust Remembrance Day

I didn’t have access to my computer over the weekend so this post is late.  Although, shouldn’t every day be Holocaust Remembrance day?

Kazimierz Smoleń survived the worst of humanity.  Today in 2018 we are faced with a surge of White Supremacy from the US Government.  President Donald J. Trump and his cronies such as Stephen Miller want  a male white race to rule all in America.  They govern by fear and intimidation.  Senator McConnell and Rep. Paul Ryan live by the ideology that poor people just like being poor and if you cut off all resources to them they will strive to be wealthy.  You know who else lived by these philosophies?  Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler and all of those fools that tried to destroy humanity.

Our leaders have linked the health of our children to legislation to make wealthy people wealthier.  Major corporations will pay less taxes.  Trump and his ilk want to increase military spending and he’s always using twitter to bring us to the brink of war. I fear for America.  I fear for the people of the world.  I fear we have lost all hope in humanity.

Some of Trumps supporters (I call them Trumpkins) in the US and abroad believe the Holocaust was fake.  Because they say it didn’t happen, so to them, it didn’t happen.

It did happen.  It was cruel and barbaric and was done only to show the world that fearful fools like Hitler, Kim Jong Un and Donald J. Trump should never have power of any kind!

I’m sad that the country that my family has bled and died for lacks any principles.  I’m sad that so-called Christians who hold favor with Trump forgive a white man the sins of abortion, adultery and well all sin because he asked forgiveness (Trump never asked forgiveness…he denied what we all know to be true). It’s disgusting.    I hold faith that fools like these do not destroy my country.

I will always remember the Holocaust.  The truth and the survival are real.  Remembrance of the lessons that were left behind.  I will hold them tight and hope we do not follow the path of lies and destruction.  Six Million people were slaughtered because they were Jewish or different.   SLAUGHTERED…read the big word.

It Feels Like Spring

I’m obsessed by the weather, in case you couldn’t tell, lol.  We went from -7 degrees to 58 degrees today.

I went to the park to enjoy some outdoor moments.  Then I saw this woman with two huskies tethered to her bike like a dog sled team.  They pulled her up the hill and then took off down the path all happy and running.  I could only assume this is practice for the Iditarod Challenge.  I’m still amazed what I encounter on my little adventures.

There were tons of birds.  I was kicking myself for not bringing my good camera 😦

Next Time.

There Really Never Is Enough Time

On Tuesday, January 16, 2018 I lost a great friend and companion…Mickie Schmenkman.

Mickie came to us at the age of 8 weeks old.  Boy was she a handful.  Very quiet the first two weeks.  I always believed that was to lull us into a false sense of ease, lol.  After that she was hell on four feet!

She was a fast little dog.  Easy to potty train and usually listened but loved to chase rabbits.

She bonded right away with her sister Willow who was 2 years older than Mickie.  Willow was even-tempered and a perfect complement to Mickie’s energy level.  Willow never got angry with her when she would jump all over her.

When Willow passed away in 2014 it was just Mickie.  Being the princess was right up her alley, lol.   She was born to be a diva 🙂

Later in 2014 she welcomed a new sister Tara.  Mickie was much older now and the tide had turned.  She was the older one and Tara was the high energy girl.  It never stopped Mickie from running around acting like a lunatic younger puppy.  They became best buddies.

No matter what they were side by side.  They both tolerated my dressing them up for holidays.  Mickie began to slow down and age was just beginning to show on my old gal.

I remember a few years ago when Mickie was barking and jumping around like a lunatic.  A neighbor said to me…’Don’t worry she’ll grow out of the puppy energy soon’.  She then asked how old Mickie was and I told her 9 years old.  The neighbor then said…’or maybe not’, lol.

Mickie began to sleep more and more.  She had a host of medical issues but she kept going.  Tara was very caring toward her.  She would still try to get the old girl to play with her.

Even on her last day she was a beautiful girl filled with love.  I know in my heart she is now running free and enjoying her pain-free existence.  I know I’m a better person for having loved her.  We are all sad and are trying to deal with the void our lives have now.  It’s not easy.  When my life was at its darkest moments, it was Mickie who held me together.  She gave me the will and determination to move on…mostly because she was a diva who wanted 100% attention.  Just what I needed to get out of my head and back into living.  I owe this little dog a lot.  My life…no our lives together was good.

Rest my little Nana.  Until we all meet again on the other side.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today we celebrate the birth and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  This year it is more important than ever to re-educate ourselves by reading about the works of Dr. King.

Dr. King stood for justice in the face of injustice.  His message is so important because the President of the US is many things from bully to self aggrandize simpleton.  He is also a racist.  He denies being a racist and says “No, I’m not a racist. I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed”.  This would have been almost believable if he hadn’t described those who took part in the Charlottesville white supremacy march, that killed one person, “some very fine people”.

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’
– Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Republican party led by their halfwit President Trump will be the show today.  Look at us…we love minorities and want to help them all.  Unless of course they are of color or aren’t Christian.  I find this weird because Jesus was of color, poor and a foreigner.  He was probably going to come back like he promised and realized ICE would throw him in detention for being all of those things.

Dr. King believed love and peace were the answer to anger and hate.  He and so many others are also remember today.  People like  Medger Evers, Rosa Parks, and Sojourner Truth.  Medger Evers once said “You can kill a man, but not an idea”.  The idea that we are all created equal has been very hard for whites in America, and particularly in the south, to grasp.  They blame blacks for being the largest group in incarceration.  Interestingly enough they never ask the right question or posit the correct theories.  If more blacks are poor than any other group in America wouldn’t that lead them to be more desperate?

White Supremacy is a ridiculous ideology.  It is the ideology of the weak-minded and uneducated.  Fanatics are stupid whether they are race or religious…they are weak people.  Dr. King fought for justice for minorities of all kinds whether race, religion or gender.  He understood the heart of Jesus and his teachings.  He knew that hate is not productive and is only destructive.  He knew more than President Trump and his band of “white males only” and he died before he could reach the zenith of his work.  Dr. King left a legacy that can’t be tarnished or demoralized.  They can try but in the end….Love will always win and hate and arrogance will destroy themselves because this has always been the case.

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today I will celebrate Dr. King’s birth and the birth of all of those souls that fought against injustice and continue the fight for the rights of all people.

Winter’s Mean

We are finally getting a break from the Polar Vortex/Arctic Blast mess from the last two weeks.

Winter is cold but rarely this cold.  It was 5 degrees with a windchill of -7.  This is Pennsylvania…not Minnesota!

We had snow, ice and freezing rain.  I’m pretty sure we have hit every type of precipitation there is to out there.

We even were able to make artwork from the frost that grew on our storm door.  The truth is out there people!  It was so cold that we didn’t go out much at all.  The dogs hated it and so did we.

There was even a snow day.  In Adult that  just translates into work-from-home.  I tried to drive to work but the roads were very dangerous.  It just wasn’t worth it.  My boss thankfully called and said stay home as I was going back home, lol.

One good thing we did discover was the laundry room is long enough to play Cornhole.  It was nice to have an outdoor activity to do indoors, lol.  We had to move the snow shovels and boots but good time had by all!
